How To Improve 3 Vital Website Usage
Ratios?

Visitor Loyalty & Retention
Gain Visitor Loyalty
Ok, you are done with the designing of your website, and since
it has been built in accordance with the basic
rules of search engine optimization, you are seeing some
traffic at the end of the day. Your mission doesn't end here.
Website marketing is an ongoing process of refining your website
to interact better not only with the search engines but with
the visitors too that these web properties bring.
This article focuses on 3 associated website usage stats that
you must improve overtime to turn your website venture into
a successful one.
First of these is 'Average Visit Per Unique Visitor'.
This informs you of the number of times that an average visitor,
who somehow found your website, returns for a deeper look. For
example a ratio of 2.5 means that the average visitor to your
website came back for atleast one and a half times in addition
to his initial visit. The higher this ratio is, more is the
visitors' likeliness of and loyalty to your website. It shows
that they like your website design & content and are willing
to revisit for checking any updates. Strategies to increase
this ratio:
- Motivate the visitors to bookmark your website and provide
easy means of doing so.
- Update your website content frequently and exhibit these
embellishments on a prominent spot.
- Run a weekly or monthly newsletter, encourage visitors
to subscribe and reinforce your website address in the email
newsletter.
Second comes the 'Average Page Views Per Visit'.
This counts the number of web pages that a typical visitor to
your website looked at. Again, the higher this figure is, the
better your website is doing in captivating the mindset of your
audience. Remedies for a lower number are:
- Break single lengthy pages into multiple smaller ones
so the visitors interact more with your website's hyperlinks.
- Do not solely depend on main navigation for visitors to
follow to other sections of your website. Instead provide
a couple of these links within the body content of related
pages.
- Provide better cues for internal links when following
the above technique.
Third happens to be the 'Average Time Spent Per Visit
Session'. This calculates the length in minutes or seconds
of a normal visit session to your website. Often website statistics
software breaks this into meaningful ranges of 0-30 seconds,
30 sec to 2 minutes, 2-5 minutes, more than ten minutes etc.
While doing an analysis of average visitor time, some values
on the extreme are to be ignored. For example, a few of the
people spending more than an hour could be visitors who didn't
close the browser window after they were done with visiting
your website. Likely, some of the 0-30 sec visitors are those
who were looking for something else and were mistakenly directed
to your website through the vague listing on search engines.
Possible strategies to increase this average time span are:
- Know the more popular pages of your website and ensure
that they provide an adequate number of links to other pages
on your website for a lengthier session.
- Add related content to your website, so visitors can spend
more time reading about the topic they are interested in.
- Follow an internet friendly writing style. Online readers
scan rather than read; in 'Make Your Words Sell', Ken Evoy
describes this phenomenon in detail.
The three statistical ratios we have described above are very
much interrelated. Increasing one will lead to improvement in
the others too. Thus, for best returns, they should be dealt
with a synchronized plan.
